PRIZES!!!

We have introduced a new prize system to our kids' church program. They have four ways to earn points that will then go towards earning prizes. They can earn points by:
1. attending kids' church
2. knowing their weekly memory verse
3. bringing an offering
4. bringing a friend

There are different levels of prizes and the kids have the option of spending their points on a small prize or saving up for a bigger prize. The kids seem very excited about this new system and are eager to do as much as they can to earn points. Our goal for this new system is that kids will be excited about coming to church, that they will begin to store up God's word in their hearts and minds, that they will learn the importance of giving back to God, and how exciting it is to share God's good news with everyone. As a bonus the system is also built in a way that the kids will learn patience as they strive to save up their points for the prizes they want.

The kids seem most excited about their memory verses which is encouraging as I truly believe that putting scripture to memory is a useful tool. It provides wise words to lean on in times of struggle or in times of celebration. Even when scripture isn't directly applicable right away it usually comes in handy at some point and the easiest way to access scripture is if we have it in our minds. So the more we get kids to know scripture now the more it will benefit them down the road. Why not make it a challenge in your household and memorize the scriptures alongside your children? Help them to understand what the verses mean and talk about them throughout the week?

This weeks memory verse came from our bible story this week about Jesus raising a man's son back to life, and it is a reminder to us that we don't need to be afraid when Jesus is on our side. He is able to perform miracles and provide for us in ways we don't even know. Here is this weeks verse:

Fear Busters!

Hi everyone,
Sorry I haven't posted in ages... I will get better at that. We had a great summer hear at Cornwall and the Jr. Church kids spent a lot of time coming up with ideas and planning fundraisers to go towards our building fund. For those who don't know we are planning a major renovation project to update our building facilities so that we can better serve our community, and one of the spaces being renovated will be our kids' space.

Now that we are back into school and fall is upon us we are back into doing lesson series. The past few weeks we have been doing a series called FEAR BUSTERS!! That is all about how God helps us bust our fears. We have learned that we can bust our fears through:
- Prayer
- Faith
- Trusting that God is with us
- Courage
- Trust

A couple weeks ago, we did a children's version of Fear Factor. They had to dig for bugs and snakes and eyeballs in some messy concoctions and eat some worms in dirt and get their toes frozen in ice water. There was a lot of laughs and a lot of mess! I absolutely love watching your children learn and applying the lessons to their lives. I had the privilege of hanging out with a couple of families one afternoon and we went hiking in the woods where we found a small stream that we decided to stop and play at. The kids decided they wanted to try to jump from one side of the stream to the other but were scared of falling in. This is a short video that came out of that experience:

Halloween is just around the corner and we are planning a Halloween Party!! There will be trick or treating, crafts and a movie (Hotel Transylvania) :) Come on out and bring a friend, Saturday October 27th 6:30-9:00.
